Northwest Chinese School's Elementary Advanced Program (EAP) was created in 2007. Originally conceived as an preparatory course exclusively for students seeking to enroll in elementary school gifted programs, EAP has since grown to emphasize both academic and social development. Through personalized, interactive teaching, EAP builds strong academic foundations, critical self-confidence, and a passion for learning. Now in its sixth year, the program serves students from kindergarten through 2nd grade and has enrolled over two hundred students to date, many of whom have gone on to join gifted programs throughout the Seattle area.

EAP classes meet once a week on Saturdays, for fifty minutes. The current location is Newport High School in Bellevue, WA. Usually, one or two topics are covered in each session, beginning with a quick whiteboard session and followed by an interactive learning activity. Class sessions generally focus on English, science, and logic, while we partner with our parents to build a personalized at-home mathematics curriculum for each and every student. Homework consists of both required and optional assignments, guaranteeing that each student can move at their own pace without feeling overwhelmed. Because all instruction takes place in English, many ethnically non-Chinese students have joined the program over the years as well.

The Kindergarten and 1st Grade Gifted Prep (K1GP) class is most suitable for students in kindergarten and 1st grade, emphasizing classroom social skills such as confidence building and behavior management. The academic curriculum focuses on English, logic, and mathematics, and extends into the 2nd grade level. Special attention is given to CogAT style questions in order to prepare interested students for the annual gifted program exams. Advanced preschoolers may be invited to trial the class as well.

The 2nd Grade Gifted Exploration (2GE) class is most suitable for 2nd and 3rd grade students, as well as younger students who either have completed the K1GP course or demonstrate equivalent academic aptitude. It continues our tradition of interactive teaching, while adding a whole host of science topics and experiments to the curriculum. Students will learn basic chemistry, biology, and even a little about architecture, completing many take-home projects along the way. 2GE also introduces higher vocabulary and grammar, with opportunities for written book reports and oral presentations.

For the 2012-2013 school year, EAP is considering inauguration of a 3rd grade level class. If approved by the school administration, the program would focus on advanced enrichment, specifically emphasizing science, logic, and literature.
